In January 2020 His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales visited the Whittle Laboratory to launch the National Centre for Propulsion and Power. The visit highlighted the focus of future Whittle Laboratory research and the opportunities for the EPSRC CDT in Future Propulsion and Power to focus on new technology for low/zero carbon. During the visit, His Royal Highness met the CDT students and impressed on them the importance of their work in accelerating the decarbonisation of aviation and power generation. The Centre, which is due to open in 2023 will provide unique rapid aerospace testing facilities and brings together researchers and students from across UK Universities with industry partners such as Rolls-Royce, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Siemens and Dyson to accelerate the development of low-carbon technologies for the propulsion and power sectors.
